This week, Streetscape crews installed conduit at Cabarrus Avenue and started rough grading the intersection. Meanwhile, infrastructure crews removed the roadway north of Cabarrus towards the Library and began the new sewer main installation. During the roadway removal, old trolley tracks were discovered just 2 ft. below the asphalt on Union Street! While most of what was uncovered wasn’t in great shape, we were able to preserve what we could and relocate them for safekeeping.
South of Cabarrus Avenue sidewalk crews worked hard installing formwork and pouring new sidewalks.
Weather permitting, next week, crews will continue pouring the sidewalk on the east side of Union up to Cabarrus Avenue and start installing brick pavers as infrastructure crews continue working on the new sewer.
